2008 FRIENDS OF SBRL EVENTS

April 25, 2008 Friends of Marion SBRL will provide refreshments and hosts for the Town of Marion Arbor Day and Tree City USA Celebration.

May 8, 2008 Friends Spring Fling will be held on Thursday, May 8 at Treetops, the Graham Cabin at Hungry Mother Park.

May 30 - 31, 2008 Friends of the Smyth-Bland Regional Library Annual Book and Yard Sale at the Marion Library in the Garage on Cherry Street.

A NEW COLLECTION of books, videos, DVDs and other materials (including exciting mysteries, warm romances, rough & ready westerns, interesting non-fiction and children's titles) will be available throughout the sale at great prices.

FRESH POPCORN AND SOFT DRINKS for sale throughout the weekend.

YARD SALE of unusual and unique items (clothing, yard art, etc.) will be available on Friday and Saturday, May 30th & 31st during Book Sale hours. Be sure to come early for the very best treasures.

Funds made through the book and yard sale are used for Library community programming and Friends project costs.

November 20, 2008 Friends of Smyth-Bland Regional Library 2008 annual meeting will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 7:00p.m. A short business meeting to recap 2008 events and to elect officers for 2009 will be conducted in the Adult Circulation Area. Next, the featured actor David Browning – “The Mayberry Deputy” will be on “patrol”, door prizes will be awarded and refreshments served. There is no program fee. The library is located at 118 S. Sheffey Street, Marion, VA 24354.

December 1, 2008 The Friends of the Library will sponsor the annual Tree Trimming and visit from Santa on Monday, December 1.

Other projects in which the Friends participate include providing volunteers and funding for Youth Services Summer reading program, providing volunteers for the Sherwood Anderson Short Story Contest Awards Ceremony held in the early Fall, providing treats for children participating in the Downtown Marion Halloween Madness on Saturday, October 25, financially supporting the Smyth-Bland Regional Library Scholarship, supporting and promoting library programming and projects.
